Live Working

(LW) is a technical procedure used:

  • at low and medium voltages, to optimise the operation of electrical power distribution grids, constrained by annoying power cuts for customers and certain civil safety functions;

  • at high and very high voltages, to increase the availability of grids that, when unavailable, create a constraint for network operation, and so markedly improve the security and safety of the power supply.

Moreover, increasingly dense grids make the safety lockouts necessary for de-energised working complex and create risks.
Live Working is used on various types of grids, such as:

  • overhead networks (all voltage ranges),

  • low voltage underground networks and interior systems,

  • HV-B substations.

Live Working employs various methods (hand-stick, bare-hand, insulating glove)
or equipment (lifting platforms, helicopter-based work, etc.).

A word from the president

Nowadays, in a world where new technologies are acclaimed and open up many horizons, live working remain a modern activity, at the heart of the energy transition and the performance of grid operators.

All participants in the Committee and its committees are working to find innovations to improve techniques and methods and adapt them to regulatory and stakeholder...
